Eric has found what he believes to be the Feel Good News Story of the Year and I’m somewhat inclined to go along with that. The story details are that 56-year old Margaret Johnson, the proverbial “woman in a wheelchair” was on her way to target practice in the infamous Harlem neighborhood in New York when 45-year-old Deron Johnson approached her from behind and attempted to take a chain from around her neck. This sweet little old lady promptly removed her .357 and shot Deron in the elbow. I love this quote, where she tries to be modest about her heroic act:
“There’s not much to it,” she said in a brief interview. “Somebody tried to mug me, and I shot him.”
Margaret Johnson, who lives in Harlem, has a permit for the weapon and does not face charges, Grimpel said.
In a related bit, Margaret Johnson will be appearing in the next issue of the Guiness Book of World Records as, the first person ever to live in Harlem and actually have a permit for her gun.
