If anyone out there uses D-Link DI-804HV or DI-808HV VPN routers, you should contact D-Link to receive the latest firmware – v1.41. They don’t list the upgrade on the site for some reason unknown to me, but it is available and does make a difference. NAT from differing WAN->LAN ports never worked with v1.40 – something that drove me absoultely bonkers when setting up NAT rules at our branch offices at work. But now, I can properly redirect any external ports to any internal ones. Thanks, D-Link. Now release the firmware publically. Morons.
Dlink. Morons? Yes indeed. And there are so many undocumented (ie not in the manual) features of the 804hv. There is a even newer version of the firmware (v1.42b04) on the german dlink ftp site. This adds QOS capability to the router, but, of course there is no documentation.
John,
Thanks for the heads up. QOS is definitely something useful. I’m pretty happy with our decision to go with the 804HV – for the cost, it’s an extremely flexible device. I’ve purchased more of them recently and from what I can gather, they’re on the third hardware revision now though which begins to make me leary of using non-certified firmware.
