Thinkpad Middle Button Scroll on Linux

I’ve spent today tweaking a bit on “neo” – my Thinkpad R51. I finally took some inititive and Blingo’d a bit and got my middle-button scroll working. I found these instructions at LinuxQuestions.org and just had to make a few modifications since SuSE Linux 10 uses X.org instead of XFree86 now.

The file to modify is /etc/X11/xorg.conf – just find the InputDevice section for your pointing stick (Hint: not the one that says touchpad – duh!) and add the three lines:

Option “Emulate3Buttons” “on”
Option “EmulateWheel” “on”
Option “EmulateWheelButton” “2″

My other tweak was finally playing with Synergy. More on that in the next post.
