Slashdot is running this story about how Microshaft is planning to spend $100 MILLION (or for those of you who see numbers better – that’s $100,000,000) on marketing for Windows Vista. Now I don’t know how many copies of XP that they’ve sold and I don’t know how many copies of Vista they should expect to sell either, but seriously, don’t you think if they would sell MORE copies to those on the fence of upgrading if they saved their $100 million marketing budget and use those savings to lower the per copy cost of Vista?
I wish I could find the article, but I can’t, so take it with a grain of salt. I read that Microsoft is losing money in almost every single one of their products but Windows XP. That shows you what the markup is on XP for them to be able to cover their losses on every other product (not just things like Office, but XBox, etc.).
It was something like 300% markup.
