My USB cable that I bought on eBay late last week came in the mail this morning. It took me about an hour to get everything sorted with drivers and software installed and updated on my laptop’s install of Win2k, but I did some seem “hacking” or “editing” as I prefer to call it, and I can now successfully use Bluetooth to transfer files (OBEX to all of those educated in the ways of BT) to and from my phone. This is mostly useful for MP3′s, although I plan to use it do wallpapers and such too. That being said – the cable is pretty much useless to me now unless someone comes up with some more good hacks for the phone, which will probably happen in due time. Meanwhile, the cable will be here collecting dust.
Hey which drivers did you use? Also does your cable charge the phone or is it just a data cable? I just bought a data cable for my phone off ebay and it’s one that charges, the drivers that came with it dont support my phone (even though the seller stated they do) and i have not been able to download drivers that work. They all have the same result, which is two things:
1- installs the phone but comes back with an error (10) – device cannot be started
2- leaves an unknown device which no driver will work for
Im running windows XP Pro SP2 and have all the most recent updates. Please shoot me an email – I’m desperate for help and can’t find anything useful on ANY forums
Thanks!
Anthony.
I purchased an OEM Motorola cable from AccStation on eBay. Interestingly enough, the cable has contacts on the charger side of the plug, but the best I can tell, it is definitely NOT charging while plugged in. Might be because the USB port that I have it plugged into isn’t powered though, but I don’t know. I did test though and was able to take some thin plastic (not too thin or the contacts will poke through) and cover up those power-side contacts and connect the cable too, so maybe that is something you can try. My cable came with mobilePhone tools, and I did install that, but those drivers didn’t help with the USB connection. I downloaded something called RSD that had the driver package in it which installed the correct drivers that I needed to C:\Program Files\Motorola\MotoConnect. If you need any more specific help, just post here with what exactly you’re trying to do and I’ll update the post and/or add a comment accordingly.
I did find some drivers that got my phone working, and the unknown device was actually a part of my motherboard (its and asus board and it has a “device” for the overclocking software they have and i didn’t have it installed so windows didnt know what it was). I’m pretty lost now as to what I can do. I have P2K tools, MPT, PST and they all can connect but I don’t even know what seems to edit or what to change them to. I know one thing I definately want to do is unlock the bluetooth features that verizon locked me out of so I can easily transfer pix and mp3′s from my comp without buying a transflash card and adapter and a card reader. I found that if you type ##DIALUP on your keypad it unlocks DUN so you can use your phone as a modem but thats worthless to me since my PC is a desktop and I have 5mbit cable.
