windows UPDATE

I gotta say that Windows Update is just retarded. I guess I really shouldn’t place the blame on WU because it’s really the fault of Gates and his coder monkeys. So, Microsoft, I have a question: Why oh why do I have to run WU more than once? Why not have the engine scan the computer, present me with some options, and have it create-on-the-fly a single patch to download and bring the machine up the current state it needs to be? If that won’t work, how about it still downloading ALL possible updates at once and then store them on the computer and install them, reboot, install some more, reboot, install some more and reboot again until it’s finished updating. I hate scanning, installing, rebooting, starting update again…. I know I’m not the only one out there who feels like this…

My biggest pet peeve of all is how you install one update, and then come back and scan again and theres a patch for that update… SIGH! How flippin’ ridiculous is that?!?!

Example of my morning:

Windows Update: You need to upgrade to Internet Explorer 6/Service Pack 1.
Justin: OK, I’ll never use it, but I still want to close the security holes that are in 5.5.
Windows Update: You might have to reboot after installing this update.
Justin: Yeah, I might [cue the eyeroll, you know what's coming]
Windows Update: OK, I’m done, uncheck the box if you don’t want to reboot now.
Justin: [hmm.. box is checked and grayed out – can’t change it… might…]
[reboot computer and run Windows Update again]
Windows Update: You need to install “Update for Internet Explorer 6/Service Pack 1 – KB834468234568739457″
Justin: But I JUST installed IE6, how can it be out of date already?!?! But whatever, just update for crying out loud!
Windows Update: You might have to reboot after installing this update.
Justin: Yeah, I might.
Windows Update: OK, I’m done, uncheck the box if you don’t want to reboot now.

So anyway, I rest my case… anyone else care to share your experiences? Maybe I’ll have reader submission week here on wantmoore.com…. Top story as voted by the readers can have all 12 of my Gmail invites….
