Well March Madness for me officially began tonight with the start of the ACC tourney. It also marked my first incorrect prediction of the games to come. Before I give you my highly-biased picks for the rest of the ACC weekend, let me throw this out there:
If anyone is interested in a fantasy league style pick-em for the NCAA tournament, either leave a comment here or use the contact button from my menu above and let me know. I’ll get back in touch with anyone interested. If 5 or more people are interested I’ll start a club. If nothing else, it’s just a good way to help keep your own predictions in line. ESPN.com usually provides the nicest printable brackets once they air on Sunday night and IMHO, Yahoo! Sports has the best system for the fantasy thing.
So, for the ACC this weekend…. (Seedings in Parenthesis)
- Game 2: (1) Duke/(8) Virginia – Blue Devils will smash the Cavs by a margin of 15 or 20.
- Game 3: (4) Georgia Tech/(5) North Carolina – Should be an excellent game. TarHeels by 5 over the Jackets.
- Game 4: (2) NC State/(7) Florida State – If the Wolfpack wasn’t so strong and experienced, I’d give FSU the edge. Seminoles will lose by 7.
- Game 5: (3) Wake Forest/(6) Maryland – Another game which should be intense. Demon Deacs gets my vote though by 9 points over the Terps.
I’ll update tomorrow night just to make sure I’m on track, but here are my next semifinal round predictions assuming I got the quarterfinals correct:
- Game 6 – UNC
- Game 7 – NC State
- Game 8 / Champion – UNC
Sure, it’s probably a long shot, but I gotta give my Heels chance! Statistically, seems almost impossible for Duke to beat Carolina 3 times in a row. Check out this article from TarHeelBlue.com to get some interesting facts about Carolina and their ACC tournament history. Very impressive stuff.
